Community Education

We deliver workshops and legal education sessions, and produce resources, to help make legal information more accessible, and more meaningful, to more people. The more we all understand about the physical, emotional, and financial impacts of violence against women, the better allies we can all become, the better we can respond as bystanders and the better we can offer support as friends, colleagues and community members.

  • Where's Your Line?

    Where’s Your Line? is a values-led workshop that builds community capacity, one person at a time, to change culture and prevent the abuse of women and girls by providing information and tools to respond and support in safe and appropriate ways.

    It has been developed by Tasmanian women’s specialist organisations Engender Equality, Hobart Womens Shelter, Women’s Health Tasmania and Women’s Legal Service Tasmania.

  • Girls Gotta Know

    Girls Gotta Know is a website providing easy-to-read, relatable legal information for young women across Australia. Topics covered include: relationships; alcohol and drug use; online safety; housing and renting; employment; housing; and finances.

  • Children holding sign All Come Out To Play

    All Come Out to Play!

    All Come Out to Play! gets preschool-aged children and their parents and carers talking about gender equality using movement, theatre and lots of fun. This initiative is a partnership between Happy Habits, Women’s Legal Service Tasmania, Laurel House, Playgroup Tasmania, Playgroup Victoria, and White Ribbon Australia. It received three nominations in the Theatre Council of Tasmania 2025 Tasmanian Theatre Awards.

  • Consent Education Program

    In partnership with Laurel House, we offer respectful relationships and consent education to girls and young women across the state. This program was piloted with the support of Guides Tasmania, with funding from Hydro Tasmania in each Tasmanian region.

  • Just Healthy Families

    Just Healthy Families in addition to providing legal advice, referral and assistance, the JHF lawyers deliver training and community legal education presentations to a wide range of health and social service providers across Tasmania.

  • Sexual Harassment, Employment and Discrimination

    Our Working Women’s Centre delivers the Small Steps | Safe Workplaces Sexual Harassment Conference aimed at providing opportunities to gather expertise and lead the conversation around the positive duty of organisations to make their workplaces safe, and prevent workplace sexual harassment, rather than only respond when it occurs.
