Quick Escape Button Information
This website has a quick escape button near the bottom right-hand corner of each page. The button may be helpful if you are worried that someone is about to find you looking at this site. If you click on this button, it will close the Women’s Legal Service Tasmania website and open the Google search website.
Other ways to leave a website quickly:
close the browser window on your computer
on your phone, press the Home button or swipe up to close the app
The quick escape button will not delete your browser history, which means that if someone checks your browser history, they will be able to see that you have visited this website. Internet browsers allow you to clear your entire history completely - you should think about if doing that might alert your abuser. Another option might be to delete the browsing history back to a certain date, or delete each website from the history list.
The website of the eSafety Commissioner has lots of great information about online safety.
To delete information that shows the websites you have visited:
You can turn off or delete your browsing history to remove the list of websites that you have visited - go to the tools or settings menu in your internet browser and select History - look for the options of what you can delete.
You might be able to turn off search and page history if your browser offers it. Look for a setting called never remember history or clear history when closing browser.
On your phone or computer, your browser will also offer Private or Incognito Browsing - this does not save the websites you visit.
