Jane Fleming

Jane’s career and interest focused on the rights and wellbeing of children and their access to social justice, initially through her work as a school social worker, then as a senior practice consultant in family violence in the Department of Health and Human Services. Subsequently, Jane was an acting Area Director in Children and Youth Services for 3 years and then State Manager for Family Violence Counselling and Support Service.

Jane was instrumental in introducing two programs to Tasmania: Love Bites, a respectful relationship program focusing on 11 to 17-year-olds auspiced by NAPCAN (National Association for the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect); and Shark Cage, which is designed to empower and heal women who have experienced abuse in their relationships, providing a human rights framework.

For her work with Love Bites, Jane was awarded the NAPCAN Play Your Part Award, Outstanding Commitment to Violence Prevention in Tasmania. She was also recently recognised by the Premier for her significant contribution to the lives of children, young people and their families.

Jane continues to participate actively in the sector with her contributions to our board, to Laurel House Sexual assault service and to the Medical Board of Australia, community member, through the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency. Jane holds a Master of Social Work (Advanced Practice), Bachelor of Social Work and Associate Diploma, Music.
